The Isaiah Problem

There is no problem!

By: Joseph Salomonsen

There have been some claims of multiple authorship of the book of Isaiah. A division of the book into 1st (Isa 1-39) 2nd (Isa 40-55) and 3rd (Isa 56-66). But Isaiah is a unique & united book:

  • Christ & the Apostles quote from 1.2.3. Isaiah and attribute it to him. (Joh 12:37-41, Rom 10:16-21, Mat 3:3, 12:17-21)

  • The Septuagint contains no hint of multiple authorship

  • The Dead Sea Isaiah Scroll (1QIsa) contains no hint of multiple authorship.

  • Josephus attributes the whole book to Isaiah.

  • Talmud attributes the whole book to Isaiah.

  • The Book of Ecclesiasticus testifies of the unity of Isaiah. (Sir 48:20-25)

  • Pseudepigrapha suggests the unity of Isaiah;
    • Ascension of Isaiah
    • Martyrdom of Isaiah

  • In literally terms it’s very much harmonious; function prefixes and expressions.

  • Not even a hint of multiple authorship in ANY scripture of ANY faith!

  • Not even a single secular source argues such a theory until ca. 1000CE!
